World Health Day 2025: “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” — A Call to Champion Maternal and Newborn Health

Every year on April 7, the world comes together to commemorate World Health Day, an occasion to spotlight pressing health challenges and inspire collective action. This year, the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” places the spotlight on maternal and newborn health — a foundational pillar for building strong families, healthy communities, and a thriving future generation.

At Terainz Healthcare, we recognize that the journey of life begins long before a baby’s first cry. It starts with the well-being of the mother — her physical, mental, emotional, and social health — and continues with the care and protection offered to the newborn in those fragile first days, weeks, and months.

To lead the conversation this year, we are honored to welcome Dr. Benedicta Adwoa Hayford as our guest speaker. Dr. Hayford is an exceptional medical doctor, the President of the RTC Foundation, and a passionate advocate for accessible healthcare in Africa. Her dedication to maternal health, her work in medical education, and her mission to bring essential supplies and knowledge to underserved areas make her the perfect voice to guide us on this vital topic.

Join us live on our YouTube channel — Terainz Healthcare — at 8:00 PM WAT, Sunday, April 7, as we unpack what it truly means to give every mother and child a healthy beginning and a hopeful future.

Why This Matters to Everyone

Whether you're a mother, father, caregiver, employer, sibling, or friend — maternal and newborn health should concern you. The statistics are sobering: hundreds of thousands of women and newborns die yearly from preventable causes. But the solution is within reach — and everyone has a role to play.

How You Can Support Mothers and Newborns

1. Educate Yourself and OthersLearn the signs of pregnancy complications, the importance of prenatal checkups, and the essentials of newborn care. Misinformation is dangerous — share accurate, practical knowledge with those around you.

2. Be Present and SupportivePregnancy and early motherhood can be isolating. A listening ear, a helping hand, or simply checking in can go a long way in supporting emotional and mental health.

3. Encourage Health-Seeking BehaviorsMany women skip antenatal visits due to fear, myths, or lack of support. Encourage and even accompany them when needed. Make sure new mothers know the importance of immunizations, exclusive breastfeeding, and postnatal checkups.

4. Create Safe EnvironmentsWhether at home or work, ensure pregnant women and new mothers are not overburdened. Offer flexible work schedules, limit stress, and prioritize rest and nutrition.

5. Leverage Digital Health ToolsPlatforms like Terainz Digital Healthcare make health education, virtual consultations, appointment reminders, and support communities accessible — especially in areas where access to healthcare is limited.

We will be doing our part by providing:

  • Free digital resources on pregnancy and infant care

  • Virtual consultations with licensed medical professionals

  • Support communities for expecting and new mothers

  • Reminders for prenatal visits and immunizations

  • Advocacy for maternal health through storytelling and events

Let’s Make Health a Shared Responsibility

You don’t need a medical degree to be part of the solution. A supportive call, a shared article, a simple reminder to rest, eat well, or attend a clinic visit — it all counts.

Let’s come together as a community to champion the cause of maternal and newborn health.
